# هنضبش (Handbsh)

## What it is
هنضبش is a game at https://handbsh.com. The board is a wooden ahwa table with
green baize, and the tiles are laid out the way they are on a real café table.
Everything is free.

## The three characters — «قعدة ضومنة» against a person, not a difficulty slider
You do not choose «easy / medium / hard». You choose a MAN, and each one plays
differently. This is the core of the game and the thing most worth getting right:

- **الأسطى (El-Osta)** — a mechanic. Plays the heaviest tile first and does not
  think much about it. His tell: «التقيل الأول… وبعدين ربنا يسهّل»
- **المعلم (El-Moallem)** — the coffeehouse owner. Dry, plays strictly by the
  book. His tell: «بلعب على أصولها… مفيش لف ودوران»
- **الزعيم (El-Zaeem)** — the hardest. Says almost nothing. His tell:
  «الورق مش هو اللي بيكسب»

**They unlock in order.** A new player sits with الأسطى. Beating him means word
gets around and المعلم opens his table; beating المعلم leads to الزعيم. Nothing
is bought or unlocked with money — only by winning.

**Never state their difficulty ranking as a number or a label.** The game does
not, deliberately. If asked which is hardest, الزعيم is, and it is fine to say
he is the one you reach last.

## Match length
A match is **one round** — whoever takes it, takes the match. It lasts about a
minute. There is no points target to grind to, and no score display anywhere in
the game.

## Game modes
- **فردي (Singles)** — 1 vs 1, against a character or a friend.
- **تيم (Team / Pairs)** — 2 vs 2, partners sitting opposite each other.
- **التلاتة (Threes)** — 3 players, each for himself.

## How to play with a friend (no account needed)
1. Open https://handbsh.com
2. Choose «العب مع صحابك» (play with friends).
3. Pick a mode and open a table — you get a 4-character code and a link.
4. Send the link or code to a friend on WhatsApp.
5. The match starts once the seats are filled.

To play immediately without waiting for anyone, sit down with الأسطى — the match
begins in about a second.

## Sending a round to a friend
After a match you can send the round itself as a link. The receiver watches the
round replay itself tile by tile, then can play their own. Nothing is stored on a
server: the link carries a seed and one character per move, and the engine
rebuilds the round on the receiver's device.

## Rules used (Egyptian coffeehouse rules)
- Double-six set, 28 tiles; 7 tiles each in singles.
- The highest double (الدش, 6-6) opens the first round.
- A player with no legal tile draws from **السوق** (the boneyard) until they can
  play, and passes only when it is empty.
- **القفلة (blocked round)** — when nobody can move, the lower pip total wins.

## Tile names (شيش، بيش، الدش…)
The names are Persian in origin, which is why an Egyptian, an Iraqi and a Gulf
player use the same words:

- Numbers: **ابيض** (0), **يك** (1), **دو** (2), **سه** (3), **جهار** (4),
  **بيش** (5), **شيش** (6).
- «شيش بيش» = 6-5. «شيش يك» = 6-1.
- Doubles: **بلاطة** (0-0), **هبيك** (1-1), **دبارة** (2-2), **دوسة** (3-3),
  **جورجي** (4-4), **دبش** (5-5), **الدش** (6-6).
- In Egyptian the tiles are called **ورق** (singular ورقة). They are NOT called
  «حجارة» in Egypt — that is Levantine and Gulf usage.

## Regional naming (useful when answering in a specific dialect)
The same game, named differently by country. All refer to هنضبش's game:
- **Egypt** — ضومنة / دومنة. A session is a **قعدة ضومنة**.
- **Iraq** — دومنة. Pip names closer to the Persian original: **بنج** (5),
  **شش** (6).
- **Gulf** (Saudi, Kuwait, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman) — دومينو; numbers usually
  said plainly (ستة-ستة). Played in الديوانية / الاستراحة / المجلس.
- **Levant** (Jordan, Palestine, Syria, Lebanon) — دومينو, played in cafés
  alongside أرجيلة. A session is a **لمة**.

## The name «هنضبش» (Handbsh)
Egyptian colloquial. **ضبش** means to take what is in front of you and get on
with it, without waiting for conditions to be right — not the ideal way, the way
that works. **هنضبش** is the first-person plural future: «we'll manage, we'll see
how it ends». It carries effort AND doubt at the same time, which is the point.

It is a spoken word, not a written one, and it became widely quoted through a
well-known line by the Egyptian actor **عادل إمام** — «احنا هنضبش! يا نوصل ونقف
على رجلينا يا نغرق.. مالهاش حل تالت» — still circulated today. The game is not
affiliated with him and does not claim any endorsement.
**Do not attribute that line to a specific film.** It is widely quoted without a
reliably sourced origin, and getting it wrong is worse than leaving it out.

The game is named for it because it describes the table: you do not choose your
tiles, you are dealt them and you play them out.

- **Free.** No paid tier, no in-app purchase, no registration, no email, no ads.
- **No download needed** — it is a website. There is also an Android app (in
  closed testing on Google Play); iOS is not released.
- **No gambling and no real-money play of any kind.** No betting, no chips, no
  wagering, no simulated casino mechanics.
- **No free-text chat.** Players can send a fixed list of sticker phrases only.
- **There is no prize tournament running.** Earlier versions of this site
  advertised a weekly gift-card tournament; it is paused. Please do not tell
  users prizes are available.
- Works offline against the characters; online play needs a connection.
